Fire damage can be extremely devastating to a property, and to your business. In the event your building is damaged due to fire, wind, hail, or a storm, you are often left to deal with the aftermath alone. Insurance adjusters will assess your damage and provide you with compensation, but you must remember it is the job of the insurance adjuster to minimize your claim. This is to reduce the total payout from the insurance company. Hiring a public adjuster can help you increase your settlement amount in addition to settling your claim as quickly as possible.

Tips to Dealing with a Fire Damage Claim

  • Contact your insurance provider as soon as possible to report the claim. If possible, check your policy to determine whether you must put the claim in writing and what type of information the insurance company may need to expedite your claim.

  • Contact a public adjuster to inspect your damage. He or she will inspect the property, assess the total damages, fill out necessary paperwork, submit the paperwork to the insurance company, ensure the repairs are begun as soon as possible, and will act as a witness should your compensation amount come into question.

  • Secure your property to the best of your ability.

  • Have written estimate of repairs drawn up by your contractor including repairs for smoke damage. Insurance policies usually cover a thorough cleaning of areas exposed to smoke and soot, but some items may need to be replaced due to smoke damage. List these items and submit the information to your insurance company.

  • Record all the expenses you incur as a result of your loss.

  • Continue to pay your insurance premiums and mortgage while you are waiting to hear from the insurance company.

If your property has been damaged due to fire, wind, hail, or a storm, contact the Timmons Consulting Group. Our adjusters are dedicated to helping you receive the compensation you deserve and get back to business as soon as possible after a catastrophe.
